Planting the Linden Blueberries
For two years I have been studying up on trees that grow in my locale and planning to get started planting some in my quarter-acre back yard. After much back and forth, I had settled on a Linden tree. They have a nice pyramidal form with a uniform branching pattern, medium-sized leaves and fragrant blossoms that come on in late June after most other flowering trees have gone by. It was going to be the first tree in my back yard and the start of my shade agenda. As always, once I got to the nursery I was distracted by every other tree. But this time I came around to my senses and went to get the nurseryman to finalize my choice. I found him standing in a row of blueberry bushes in one-gallon containers. “I’ll take two of each of these blueberry varieties,” I heard myself tell him. The Linden tree was history. With no preliminaries whatsoever, I was buying $80 worth of blueberry bushes instead of my $60 Linden tree. One bag of peat moss later, I was on my way home with my four “Linden blueberries” and I had committed myself to a sunny back yard. I have rocky soil and I had been dreading digging a hole for the Linden tree. Instead, I spent an entire Saturday excitedly digging up sod, sorting out rocks, amending the soil, and taking steps to increase the soil acidity. Without giving it any real thought, on Sunday morning I was back at the nursery buying two more Linden blueberries and four bags of mulching bark. That meant another half-day of sod removal and the digging of six large holes in ground where I had to pry out huge boulders. By Sunday evening I was tilling in vast amounts of compost and mulching in the plants. I inter-planted a few of sun-loving perennial flowers for interest until the blueberries reach full size. I had organic blueberries from the local market with my dinner and felt a little remorse about nixing the Linden tree plan. But then, blueberry bushes aren’t just productive, they’re ornamental, so I was headed down the road to an ornamental production garden. And that would do. That’s how I planted a Linden tree after two years of vacillating about it. And that’s how two years of planning a low-maintenance, shady back yard led to a commitment for full-sun and dreams of a few dwarf fruit trees.
What Do Static Friction, Dynamic Friction, and Furniture Polish Have to do with Argentine Tango?
They say you should never put furniture polish on a wood floor. But clearly, They don’t dance Argentine tango. I do, and until recently, I had a serious dance issue. I live in a city where the Argentine tango community is divided and caustic. Disagreements about dance styles and music preferences errupt regularly causing dance venues to close and instructors to stop teaching. During those tantrum-tossed intervals when there’s nowhere to go dance, my partner and I dance on a hardwood floor in the living room. The floor looks like it would be a good dance floor, but it has some kind of water-based finish that’s stiff, slow, and hard to pivot on. We’ve been going to refinish the floor, not for any cosmetic reason, but to make it a better dance floor. Naturally, we’ve haven’t gotten around to it. So the other night we decided to go against everything we’ve ever been told about putting furniture polish on the floor. We applied it very lightly and let it dry. It was slick all right, and it coated the suede dance soles on our shoes, too. But we took little steps and kept wiping our feet on a damp towel, and after an hour or so, parts of the floor were becoming very manageable. It isn’t the safest thing to do to a wood floor, but it turned our living room into a pretty dance-able venue. Dancing was much easier on our feet, and it was also much quieter. I had always assumed that our feet were so noisy when we danced in the living room (compared to real dance halls) because the house is old, the living room is on the upstairs level, and there was no one else dancing around us to mask the sound of our feet. But after we applied the furniture polish, it was like any other dance floor. The thing that was making it noisy was the inability to slide or move quickly. Dancing on Pledge furniture polish is unsafe but very quiet! We noticed a strange thing. Stepping and sliding are effortless and quiet, but pivoting, although it is easier than without the polish, is very noisy. Pivoting actually makes a stuttering sound and the movement is a series of tiny jerks instead of one smooth spin. So when you keep moving, it’s quiet and easy, but when you stop and turn slowly, it’s stiff and noisy. The difference, I suppose, has something to do with two kinds friction and their related coefficients: the coefficient of static friction and the coefficient of dynamic friction. I’m a dancer, not a physicist, so I can’t go any further than that with the analysis. But a dancer’s point of view, I can safely (or unsafely) say that it is possible to improve a stiff dance floor by applying Pledge furniture polish!
Friends are so important
I don’t know what I would do without mine. I would probably go crazy under all the pressure of being at home alone with my family. I would go crazy. Every so often I need to have a night out with my friends just to have a chance to breathe. There are actually tests that have shown that depression can be cured through friendships. People who only spend time with their family can suffer from depression severely. They can have that depression cured by having a friend they call at least once a week. I thought that was interesting. I believe that it is true.
Looking at old photos
It’s so weird looking back to high school and to remember proms and whatnot. I remember my grad night after I graduated. I won a camera. I think I’m just lucky. When I heard my name called I was freaking out. I walked up on the stage and accepted my prize of course. It was awesome. I won a lot of other things as well but it was awesome to win all the things I specifically needed. I really like winning things that I need. It made it a lot more helpful when it came to buying all the things I needed for college. I didn’t know I was going to need so much though. Luckily I got by. I think that’s how most college students are anyway.
She is starting to lose her mind
I hate it when older people start to get to the point where they forget everything. It is so sad. My mom is starting to be like that. She is starting to lose her mind. It’s okay though because she is old. There is certain age when it starts to be okay for people to start losing their minds. I think maybe it’s because schizophrenia runs in the family. I think maybe she has inherited that. She does talk to herself an awful lot. I’m not worried though. If she gets too crazy I will just put her in a home. I will still visit her of course but I’m not taking care of a crazy woman.
I love going dancing
I love how there is this big rival between country dancers, ballroom dancers, and country dancers. The Latin dancers don’t really seem to care much. It is pretty funny to see everyone argue about which one is better dancing to do. They think it is a sin to dance any but their own. I personally think that a well rounded dancer dances them all. I think you can’t have someone who dances one of them who says they are a master of dancing. Of course one should specialize in one type of dance; however, one should be able to dance anything.
Apples to Apples is a fun game
My family plays it at every family reunion or outing we have. We even have an Apples to Apples crown. We have competitions every time we get together to see who wins. Whoever wins gets to sign the crown and wear it in a picture. It is actually quite exciting for the younger kids. My mom really likes it too. She thinks she is so clever because she thought of it all on her own. She likes that the family gets together to do something fun that we all like doing. She is a funny girl.
Shaq Challenges Hong Man Choi to Big Money MMA Brawl
Personal Money Store Videos on Youtube According to Bleacher Report, ONeal has been training in MMA for years and has used his finely honed knowledge to spot a flaw in the combat style of Hong Man Choi. Apparently akin to Bruce Lees near-telepathic ability to read the movements of opponents split seconds before they make them, ONeal feels confident he can defeat the dangerous Korean kickboxer. Mario is the best video game ever
I love playing it or even watching other people play it. It is the best people ever. It is fun because there are so many different types of games that Mario is a part of. There are also other characters like Luigi available to play when you play most Mario games. There are role playing games and other games as well. I kind of like the role playing games just as much as racing games or other ones. I really like super Mario sunshine and paper Mario. I could play paper Mario all day every day. It would be so much fun to play it for so long.
Photoshop is one of the most amazing programs ever created
I have been watching all of these tutorials on how use Photoshop, and the program is so awesome. There are so many things you can do with Photoshop that it is ridiculous. You can create the most intense graphics and visual pieces of art. You can also use Photoshop to do quick animations. I can’t believe how much stuff you can use it for and what it can do. I seriously recommend that if you have the time to watch some videos on Photoshop that you do, because the program is awesome.
